4 conditions you didn’t know chiropractors treated
We often get patients come into the office and are surprised when they learn what we can help with. It is a common misconception that chiropractors only treat the spine. Yes, some chiropractors only focus on the spine as the primary cause of pain or dysfunction; However, many sports chiropractors work with the extremities as well . Here is a short list of some of the other conditions that we treat.
1: Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis typically presents with a stabbing pain in the bottom of the foot or heel. What it actually is, is inflammation of the plantar fascia on your foot. There are many different treatments out there that are very successful at reducing the pain and inflammation, but the key is to correct the dysfunction so that it does not keep showing up. An experienced sports chiropractor will assess the entire region and help restore function , as well as relieve your pain.
2. Rotator Cuff Injury
The rotator cuff is a grouping of 4 muscles in the shoulder (supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, and subscapularis) that help stabilize and assist the shoulder throughout various motions. Postural issues, muscle weakness, and overuse can lead to increased stress on the rotator cuff muscles, thus increasing your risk for a tear. Your chiropractic sports practitioner can evaluate the region for mobility imbalances, then provide the necessary manual therapy and rehabilitation to correct the issue.
3. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is when your median nerve is trapped and injured in your wrist. Most people equate this issue with immediate surgery, but there are many things that need to happen first. Primarily, the diagnosis is key. The median nerve can be trapped in multiple places throughout the arm, so just because you have tingling in the fingers, that doesn’t mean you have true CTS. Your sports chiropractor can help diagnose the issue, then perform myofascial release (Muscle treatment) and adjustments to help facilitate proper function.
4. Tennis Elbow
Tennis Elbow and Golfer’s Elbow, also know as Medial and Lateral Epicondylitis, are conditions that many people suffer from. These injuries are caused by excessive tightness in the forearm musculature, which leads to inflammation where those muscles attach to the elbow. Obviously by the name of the condition, they are very common among athletes, however they are also common among people who work with their hands or type on the computer regularly. A properly trained chiropractor or physiotherapist can help assess the issue, then provide the proper treatment and rehab suggestion so that you can get better quickly.
